Wal-Mart, Sam's Club shift responsibilities

BENTONVILLE, AR —
Wal-Mart has realigned new responsibilities for management within its Wal-Mart and Sam's Club divisions, effective Aug. 1.
Robert Connolly, executive vp, general merchandise, for the Wal-Mart Stores division, has been appointed to executive vp, marketing and consumer communications for Wal-Mart Stores, responsible for overseeing Wal-Mart's international marketing, advertising and consumer research programs. Paul Higham, senior vp, marketing and consumer communications, will retire at the end of January.
Don Harris, executive vp and coo of U.S. Wal-Mart store operations, will replace Connolly as executive vp, general merchandise, for the Wal-Mart Stores division.
Jim Haworth, executive vp, operations, for the U.S. Sam's Club division, has been named executive vp and coo of Wal-Mart store operations, replacing Harris.
Greg Spragg, regional vp, operations for Sam's Club, with responsibility in the western United States, will replace Haworth as senior vp, operations, for Sam's Club. Spragg will be replaced by Greg Johnston, regional vp, operations for Sam's Club, with responsibility for the southeastern United States.
Don Nickens, currently a field-based market manager for Sam's Club, with day-to-day operations responsibility for the Tampa, FL, and Atlanta markets, has been promoted to Johnston's spot of regional vp, operations.
