Denyse Schmidt creates quilt for Glass House

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 5/9/2008 11:12:00 AM

Bridgeport, Conn. – Quilt designer Denyse Schmidt has been invited to participate in the annual Philip Johnson Glass House Commission program, for which she has created a special striped pattern piece.

Supporting the preservation of modern architecture, landscape and art, Glass House calls for limited-edition works inspired by the late architect and his iconic glass home – a National Trust Historic site in New Canaan, Conn.

For the program, Schmidt created the Simple Stripe quilt, available in the Glass House Shop.

In other news, Schmidt has debuted her first home décor-weight fabric line, constructed in 100% cotton canvas, titled Country Fair.

County Fair features prints in sunny colors printed on 54-inch wide cotton canvas. The eight-pattern collection of vintage-inspired looks that evoke blue-ribbon pies, parlor dances and fiddle music on the front porch spans bright and bold florals to tiny prints that look like solids.

Designed to mix and match, each pattern is available in three color combinations: porch blue/slate; ginger/pear; and berry/raisin/rose.

The County Fair collection is approximately $18 per yard and is available at independent fabric and quilting stores nationwide.
