NEW YORK —
In his acceptance on receiving the Paradigm Award from the Home Fashion Products Association, Julian Tomchin challenged the home furnishings industry to revitalize the role of trend merchandiser or fashion director for the business.
As part of the challenge, Tomchin, senior vp for special merchandising projects at Macy's West, is spearheading a drive to establish funding for scholarships and courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) here.
"I just feel very strongly about this," he said. "And the bottom line is, the industry has to give something back."
Tomchin is heading a drive across all home products segments to raise the endowment for full-year tuition for an FIT home products student in trend merchandising. The scholarship will be part of the Michael and Susanna Steinberg Scholarship Fund that was established last April in honor of the retired chairman and ceo of Macy's West, Michael Steinberg.
We would love your feedback!
