Kalaty to debut rugs by Diana’s butler

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 6/25/2007 1:12:00 PM

New York -- Family owned and operated high-end rug company Kalaty recently created its first licensed program, selecting Paul Burrell, former butler to the late Diana Princess of Whales, as its partner for this milestone for the 28-year-old company.

Titled Royal Manner, this new handmade collection is officially launching in Atlanta during the International Area Rug market in mid July. A few of the earliest pieces were previewed in January at High Point, Ariel Kalaty, vp of marketing, explained to HTT.

Royal Manner is split into two groups -- Derbyshire and Heritage.

The Derbyshire grouping is inspired by Burrell's home in England. The 10 floral designs it comprises are made in a textured Nepal weave, without fringe.

The six Heritage rugs feature more open-field traditional patterns translated in updated palettes. They are made in a traditional Persian weave that imitates antique Oushak rugs.

All Royal Manner rugs are set to retail for about $1,800 for a 6'-by-9'.
