Gottschalks to open home furnishings lifestyle store?

FRESNO, Calif. -- Gottschalks plans to open its first 30,000-square-foot lifestyle concept store in the third quarter in Bocatello, Idaho that will primarily focus on home furnishings with decorative home, housewares and gifts in half of the footprint and furniture in the other.

During its second-quarter conference call, Gottschalks executives stated that its furniture and mattress division has performed very strongly, and the company intends to build on the positive trends it has been seeing recently in home.

The company reported net income for the second quarter was up 50 percent, to $300,000 from $200,000 last year. Same-store sales increased 3.1 percent, while total sales were up 2.6 percent, to $151.6 million.
