Turner resigns from post at Springs

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 9/17/2001 12:00:00 AM

Major textile manufacturer Springs Industries, which recently turned private, announced that Betty Turner, vp, public affairs, has resigned from the company.

Turner, who joined Springs in 1997, will join Bank of America as vp/state lobbyist for its Carolinas and Northeastern regions. Ted Matthews, the director of public relations, has been named to take Turner's place as vp, corporate communications.

Turner said the move, which will become effective at the end of this month, was consistent with her long-term goals of becoming more involved in government relations and public affairs.

"I've enjoyed getting to know this industry and the people, and I've been overwhelmed at how everyone is first class and works together to make this one of the best industries there is," Turner said about her involvement in home textiles for the past four years.

"It's been an exciting time to be at Springs," she continued. "To see the changes [chairman and ceo] Crandall [Bowles] has brought to Springs has been exciting. Through her leadership, we've become a better company, and I've been glad to be a part of the going private proposal. I'd always heard what a special place Springs and Fort Mill was and how it meant being in a 'family,' and now I've certainly seen first-hand what that means."
