PHI Grows Kids' Bedding, Silkallure

By Michele SanFilippo -- Home Textiles Today, 11/15/2004 12:00:00 AM

At PHI (Peking Handicraft, Inc.), juvenile bedding has grown to twice the size of its fall collection, with separate areas for boys and girls. The company also continues to expand its solid-color Silkallure program into new areas.

In boy bedding, three patterns were introduced: Rugby Stripe, a microfiber stripe reversing to a windowpane plaid; Harvard Stripe, with five vertical striped looks on microfiber; and Blue Hawaiian in a large wave motif reversing to a tropical surf print.

For girls, nine patterns are being offered: Groovin', Blossom, Super Puff, Crazy Stripe, Hippie Chick, Deco Stripe, Sweet Dreams, Jenna and Mod Squad. Blossom mixes pink and green with plaid and striped accents plus dye-cut dec pillows. Sweet Dreams is a crocheted look on a white cotton base with multicolored flowers and tassels. Mod Squad is a Pucci-inspired print on a chocolate ground with brown, salmon and amethyst tones.

PHI has also added seven quilting patterns and 10 colors to its growing Silkallure coverlets program. New quilting patterns include a scroll design, vermicelli stitch, double diamond, Greek key, elongated hourglass and channel stitch with buttons. Additional colorations include ballet pink, vanilla, light green, sky, chocolate and five tropical brights that reverse to a lighter or darker shade.

According to Janie Leonard, PHI's national sales manager, the company is going for a clean, sophisticated look with Silkallure in coverlets that are easy care and have matching window panels in three top treatment styles.

In decorative pillows, PHI has taken its Silkallure fabrication and added smocking, harlequin banding, pleating with asymmetrical bands, striping, a button pillow with Trapunto, as well as four solid styles and a raffia look with wooden beading that comes in seven striped combinations and five solids.

In window, several casual solid linen looks have been added with Linen Hotel, Button-Down Linen and Linen Cutwork that respectively feature banding in a contrasting color, a valance with wooden buttons and an attached valance of embroidered linen cutwork.

Roughly 12 to 15 linen guest towels with characters and cotton guest towels have been added along with 30 new accent pillows featuring fun sayings.
