ShopKo names new vice presidents, director of sales

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 5/10/2004 12:00:00 AM

ShopKo Stores, Inc. has announced changes at the corporate level as well as in the ShopKo division. Steve Cogan has been named vice president, real estate; Scott Bresnehan has been promoted to division vice president of children's apparel, home textiles and furniture; and Jim DePaul has been promoted to regional director of sales. Cogan will oversee real estate acquisition, leasing and disposition of excess properties.

Cogan joins ShopKo from Car Toys, Inc., based in Seattle, Wash., where he was vice president of real estate and construction. He also worked for 25 years at Fred Meyer, Inc., based in Portland, Ore., in a variety of real estate, administrative and retail operations positions. Cogan is a graduate of Portland State University, Portland, Ore.

"Steve's demonstrated leadership, retail real estate experience and commitment will serve us well in the future," said Rodney Lawrence, ShopKo senior vice president property development.

Bresnehan joined the company in 1994 as an associate buyer. He was promoted to senior buyer and later to director of trend services. Prior to joining ShopKo, he worked at Kohl's Departments Stores and, before that, at Younker's.

"Scott's merchandising and trend leadership will be valuable as we continue to focus our efforts on driving sales and meeting the needs of ShopKo customers," said Paul White, senior vice president and general merchandise manager of softlines.

DePaul has responsibility for the operations and profitability of 31 ShopKo stores in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan's upper peninsula, stated the company.

He joined ShopKo in 1998 as a store manager and earlier was promoted to regional customer service supervisor and senior merchandise process manager. Prior to ShopKo, DePaul worked for Circuit City in Richmond, Va., and Target Corporation in Minneapolis.

"Jim's retail experience, leadership and drive for results will be valuable as we focus on improving sales performance," said Larry Gentry, ShopKo vice president of store services.
