Sheen Rules Maison&Objet

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 10/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

Lots of shimmer and sheen, reflected particularly in the use of velvets as bedding and upholstery covers, an abundance of crystals as embellishments, and an emerging renewal of prints for the home highlighted the textile offerings at Maison&Objet here last month.

Silvery shades were the favorite for the shimmer and sheen movement, both in fabrics and decorative embellishments. Gold and brass were infrequently seen. As far as embellishments were concerned, Swarovski crystals were the hands-down winner.

The color favorites were the entire purple and pink families, with intense shades far ahead of pastels in the spotlight. The longtime favorite — brown — has morphed into a softer camel or caramel shade. Orange, a turn-of-the-century fashion statement continues to hold the attention of the European home fashions community. And black and white continue to prevail as a dramatic color statement.

This edition of Maison also produced an abundance of highly creative, high styled rugs with fiber mixing playing an important styling role in creating textural and dimensional interest.
