New York —
Malaika Bedlinens, an Egyptian manufacturer of authentic Egyptian cotton bedding, previously only available in the U.K., Europe and the Middle East, is being launched this summer market to North American retailers by Luxe Brands International.
Malaika, which Luxe said means "angel" in Arabic, uses only the finest long staple cotton that is grown, spun, woven, sewn and hand-embroidered in Egypt. In business since 2000, Malaika is positioned at the extreme high end of retail.
"Malaika celebrates a mixture of classic, elegant simplicity," said owner Goya Gallagher. "Every item is finished by hand, then beautifully hand-embroidered with contemporary designs and colors. Each set of bedding is a work of art."
After several years of seeking products for the U.S. market, Luxe Brands International president Lee Anne Downey encountered Malaika on a trip to Egypt.
"I knew I had found the right product, when all the women I was traveling with bought every single Malaika product off the shelf," said Downey, adding she "knew it would be a fresh approach to the top of bed market."
Ontario-based Luxe Brands Int'l will be showing the Malaika collection through Aug.16 at the Bryant Park Hotel, 40 West 40th Street. The designs are posted at www.luxe-brands.com.
We would love your feedback!
