Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/8/2001 12:00:00 AM

FORT MILL, SC -Springs Industries has acquired a mill from Maybank Textile Corp.

The plant, located in Cartersville, GA, on Erwin Street, manufactures yarn and will be used to support Springs' extensive bath rug business. It will be referred to as the Springs Cartersville Plant.

"Maybank has been an excellent supplier of quality yarns supporting our bath rug business for many years," said Stephen Kelbley, Springs executive vp and president of the operations group. "This acquisition is a strategic step in vertical integration to ensure quality products to our customers and consumers. We are very pleased to welcome the highly trained and professional work force of the Cartersville plant to the Springs family and look forward to continuing to develop an even stronger bath rug business."

The 130 employees formerly employed by Maybank will be retained by Springs.

"This is a win-win-win transaction for our good customer, Springs, our dedicated employees and Maybank," said Thomas Maybank, president of Maybank Textile.

Springs currently operates manufacturing facilities for bath and accent rugs in Calhoun and Ellijay, GA, Nashville, TN, and North Vernon, IN.
