Hunter Douglas pulls the plug on Internet sales

Upper Saddle River, N.J. – Window coverings manufacturer Hunter Douglas will cease online sales in the U.S. and Canada on June 1.
Hunter Douglas sells through more than 7,000 independent showrooms and in-home consultants. Hunter Douglas never sold products directly to consumers, although the site does direct consumers to dealers in their area. It is the third party web selling that is being discontinued.
Although the company acknowledged the change will hurt overall sales in the short term, it believes its customer “is best served by purchasing from well-trained and fully merchandised dealers,” said Marv Hopkins, Hunter Douglas president and ceo.
This is such big news, I wrote a separate blog about it at
www.retaildoc.om/blog/online-shopping/hd . When most of the world is
looking at taking any sale, Hunter is willing to pull their entire premium
line offline so they can control their brand. Very smart and forward
thinking
