JLA Expands Harbor House Brand

New York —
With four retail stores in China, JLA is looking to expand its reach there at the retail level via its Harbor House brand.
The full home furnishing collection features an array of in-house designed product from home textiles to furniture, rugs, accessories, lighting, and tabletop. "It's all designed in Mendicino, Calif., about a casual, coastal lifestyle," explained Scott Howard, JLA vp.
At the same time, the company is introducing Harbor House to the American retailing community to become "US-based partners — initially for the home textiles segment that includes a full assortment in bed and bath and table linens as well as rugs that are produced in India," Howard noted.
American distribution will target department and specialty stores. The product for home textiles will be the same as the Chinese assortment and will be stocked here.
Now in its second year, the mix of Harbor House product changes every season "but not 100% each season," said Howard. While all the product and styling is done in the Bay area, the photo studio is located in China, he added.
The company operates two stores in Shanghai, and one each in Beijing and Hangzhou.
Interestingly, in the catalog the product names are in English, the descriptions and pricing information are in Chinese.
