Sugar Valley, Ga. — —
Sugar Valley, Ga. — Merle Johnson announced last week that she has resigned from her post as vice president, marketing, at Mohawk Home.
Her departure comes as a result of Mohawk's consolidation of its marketing functions into its corporate parent, Mohawk Industries. The company said Johnson, who was working out of Mohawk Home's New York showroom at 295 Fifth Ave., was offered the opportunity to relocate to headquarters here but declined.
“It was a very difficult decision for me to leave Mohawk Home after so many years,” Johnson said, “but this decision was made on a personal, not a business level. My husband and I have made our home in the New Jersey/New York area, and after discussion we decided remaining in this area is what we really wanted to do.”
Jim Quist, vice president, sales, to whom she reported at Mohawk Home, described Johnson as “a great team member.”
Johnson held her last post for the past three years. With the exception of a six-month hiatus to work with a dinnerware company, she has been with Mohawk since it acquired American Weavers in 1996.
