New York — With the recent acquisition of Fonthill and Grey Watkins, two high end decorative fabric and wallcoverings companies, Stark Carpet has reshaped its fabric division, formerly known as Old World Weavers, into a new division called Stark Fabric.
The company, which specializes in high-end rugs, decorative fabrics, wallcoverings, and furniture, purchased Fonthill and Grey Watkins last month. The founders of each company, John Brewer and Grey Watkins respectively, remain with the company as directors of design for their units. The two businesses have relocated into the showrooms of Old World Weavers here, and in Dallas and Houston.
In all other territories, the two lines will remain in existing showrooms.
Explaining the change, chairman John Stark and president Steven Stark said the move “provides us with the creative resources and skills to build the fabric division and the Stark brand.”
Stark Carpet was founded more than 60 years ago by the current principals' parents, the late Arthur and Nadia Clark. Brewer launched Fonthill in 1976, and Watkins started his company in 1980.
