CHARLOTTE, NC —
CHARLOTTE, NC Perfect Fit Industries, working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has launched a voluntary recall of about 18,000 electric blankets sold only to Belk and Kmart stores in the fall of 2002.
The blankets subject to the recall, Perfect Fit said, "can overheat, presenting risks of minor burn injuries to consumers and damage to bedding, especially in cases where the blanket is severely folded or bunched." Only one such injury has been reported among the 18,000 blankets subject to recall.
Shells for all of the blankets involved were supplied through a third-party vendor and did not meet specifications, Perfect Fit said.
The blankets involved are the Soft n' Warm and Soiree models sold only to Belk and Kmart, in king, queen, full and twin sizes and in ivory, light blue and hunter green. The Soiree model has a permanent law label that reads "Shell made in China. Wired and closed in U.S.A." The Soft n' Warm model has the same language on the law label and a date code ranging from the first five numbers of 02228 through 02305 printed on a warning label on the foot of the blanket.
Consumers are offered a free replacement product and a $10 flat fee reimbursement for shipping and handling via UPS ground or FedEx ground.
We would love your feedback!
