Wellman licenses Wellstrand to fiber distributor

Fort Mill,S.C.– Polyester resin and fiber producer Wellman, Inc. has sold the equipment used to manufacture Wellstrand fiber and licensed the use of the Wellstrand name in theUnited Statesto David C. Poole Company, a Greenville, S.C.-based distributor of synthetic staple fibers and PET resins.
Thomas Duff, Wellman's chairman and ceo, said, "The sale of these assets reflects our strategy to focus on our chemical-based business."
"I am pleased to add Wellstrand, a specialty coarse denier polyester staple fiber, to our family of product offerings,” said David Poole, president of David C. Poole Co., noting the company has already resumed making the fiber. “Our product, which is manufactured primarily from post-consumer recycled raw materials, is ideal for various industrial applications. Wellstrand fiber is available in a variety of deniers ranging from 45 to 500 dpf."
