Sleep Innovations opens first of modern facilities

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ —
Sleep Innovations has opened the first of four modern manufacturing and distribution facilities planned for the next 12 months. The facility, in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, is now fully operational, while a second manufacturing site in Verona, MS, is expected to come on line during the third quarter.
Two others are in the planning stages.
Each of the four facilities will average 125,000 square feet with room to expand, according to the company. The sites, which will employ about 100 workers each, will be outfitted with computerized and automated systems to assemble and package goods.
Advanced Innovations West and Advanced Innovations East, subsidiary companies, will be the first fully automated polyurethane fabricating facilities in the United States, according to the firm.
"Sleep Innovations plans to use these facilities to research and evaluate new polymers and packaging techniques using cutting-edge technologies," said Fred Natrin, senior vp, foam products.
Also, each site is strategically located to serve Sleep Innovations' discount, specialty and department store and warehouse club retail customers in the four main regions of the country.
By the end of the year, a third site in the Midwest is expected to open. And by next year's second quarter, the fourth facility will open in the Northeast, according to Michael Fux, president and ceo.
"With the additional capacity and new products developed by these sites, we will gain a competitive advantage from this investment and will be positioned to support our customers' increased needs in this rapidly growing sleep products market," Fux said.
Prior to building its own facilities, Sleep Innovations contracted its production and distribution, according to Natrin.
Aside from growth within its current product offerings of polyurethane pillows, mattress pads, mattress toppers and sleep comfort products, Fux said the new facilities will permit for the company's expansion into new product categories.
"They will be products that enhance what we already have," Fux said. "We are staying focused on our areas [of bed and bath] but are adding more creativity and innovation."
The first launch of new product is slated for September at the New York Home Textiles Market.
