Hellenic Greens Operations

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 7/7/2008 12:00:00 AM

Hellenic Rug Imports has expanded its eco-friendly initiatives by encouraging employees to carpool, offering them telecommuting opportunities, and expanding product assortments to include more environmentally-friendly varieties.

"And we're pleading with others in the home furnishings industry to do so as well," said Steve Mazarakis, president. "As the cost of doing business continues to skyrocket and the planet suffers in turn, a decision like this was a must for Hellenic Rugs. Hellenic Rug Imports is very aware that these issues don't just go away. Every effort made is a step in the right direction, a step toward a clean and healthier world."

To reduce its employees' use of and dependency on fuel, Hellenic employees have banded together to carpool. They started the new commuting approach two months ago, and some are considering bicycling to work.

Flexible working hours and telecommuting opportunities are another employee incentive to help save energy. Hellenic now offers its staff the option to work from home with advanced telecommunication systems. Additionally, the company is now closing its warehouses on Fridays "to fight global warming and fossil fuel dependency. Productivity will go up while global temperatures will go down," Mazarakis said.

On the merchandise front, Hellenic "has made sure that a vast majority" of its product lineup fits within the eco-friendly requirements, he added.

Mazarakis noted, "Green products are a must-have for today's world, and Hellenic is making a point of coming out with new collections and re-developing old collections that best suit today's educated and concerned consumer."
