Burlington Rug steps into kitchen

By Cecile B. Corral -- Home Textiles Today, 3/22/2004 12:00:00 AM

After testing a few skus and finding success in the endeavor, Burlington Rug Corp. is officially adding the kitchen rug category to its growing roster of floor coverings.

At the New York Home Textiles Market, the company will introduce about 50 styles of 100 percent nylon and 100 percent polypropylene kitchen rugs — all made domestically at the company's headquarters here, said John McLeod, executive vice president of sales.

Designs include solid colors, florals, French country motifs, American country and folk themes, French café, cabana stripes, ranch looks and others in assorted backgrounds — gingham pattern, solids, field prints and banded prints.

Available shapes are ovals, slices and rectangles in 18-by-30-inch and 28-by-48-inch dimensions.

Targeting "all levels of retail, from mass through department stores," McLeod said, the kitchen rugs' retail price points are set to range from $9.99 to $19.99.

"We think that more and more customers are paying greater attention to decorating their kitchens these days," McLeod said. "This customer makes multiple buys of this product in a single year and redecorates her kitchen several times a year with rugs like ours."
