American Trim Promotes Smith

Howard Smith has been promoted to national sales manager of American Trim Mfg., reporting to ceo Richard Gangi.

Smith, who has 25 years of experience in the decorative trim business, succeeds Bob Paust who has joined Claridge Textiles.

Smith joined the company earlier this year as the Southeast sales rep based in High Point, N.C. from Bomar. His son Jeff Smith also will represent the firm in that territory.

In addition, Douglas Trovato and his sales organization International Textiles and Suppliers have joined the company as California sales reps.

Sure Fit Hires Vigano

Furniture cover manufacturer Sure Fit has named Matt Vigano vp sales.

Formerly a sales and product manager in bedding at WestPoint Home, Vigano previously served in sales on the Nautica and Liz Claiborne brands at American Pacific, worked at Pillowtex, and was in retail buying at Hecht's and Linens 'n Things.

Vigano will report to George De Sotle, svp of sales and marketing.

Duckwall-ALCO Recruits Johnson

Western rural retailer Duckwall-ALCO has named Donny Johnson svp and cfo, with an effective start date of August 1.

Johnson joins the 255-store chain from Brookshire Brothers Food & Pharmacy, a $1 billion retailing company where he was evp and cfo. While there he facilitated the company's transition from more than 80 years of family ownership to a 100% employee-owned company.

Prior to 13 years at Brookshire Brothers, Johnson worked grocery wholesaler and retailer Scrivner, Inc. and at consulting firm Arthur Andersen & Co.
