Creative Makes Flex Comforters

By Cecile B. Corral -- Home Textiles Today, 5/21/2007 12:00:00 AM

Creative Home Furnishings is taking the word "comfort" in comforter to a new level.

Looking to make it easier on the consumer, the company has created a two-piece comforter that can act as both a coverlet or a comforter — depending on the user's preference.

This comforter comes with a poly-fill removable insert that fits snugly into its zippered shell. But should the weather be too warm, the insert can be removed and the comforter will lay flat on the bed as a decorative coverlet — but differently than would an empty duvet cover.

As Lisa Granger, divisional sales and marketing manager, explained, "This is a solution for consumers. If you go out and buy a queen duvet and then a queen insert, there is a good chance they are completely different sizes. Manufacturers typically make queen/full sizes for inserts, so you almost never get a good fit. But our queen comes with an insert that is made to fit perfectly."

She added the same snug fit for the comforter shell and insert holds true for all other available sizes — twin, full and king.

This new collection currently comes in five designs, which are set to ship to retail in July. They are packaged five-piece sets, comprising the comforter, insert, two shams, and a bed skirt.

All are made of 100% polyester. Granger worked closely with design director Michaela Cajvan-Bernadi to create the current group. Fabrications and patterns include: Laslo, a tone-on-tone damask in chocolate; Sense and Sensibility, a gold printed floral; Silken Meadow, a solid-colored fabric in a faux ultra suede, available in three colors; Magic Flute, a flocked botanical and bird pattern in neutral shades; and Strata, a solid black border design with a color inset.

"We're also working on other designs," Granger said. "So far we've gotten great reactions, good placements, and we hope to grow this area and others."
