Big Lots reopens Ike-struck Galveston unit

-- Home Textiles Today, 4/22/2009 9:31:00 AM

Columbus, Ohio – Close-out, off-price discount chain Big Lots is reopening its Galveston, Texas, unit this Sunday after being shut down for the past seven months post Hurricane Ike’s hit on the region in mid September last year.

The store, located in the Broadway Shopping Center at 5910 Broadway, had been damaged by the hurricane and required repairs and remodeling before is could be reopened.

"So many people were affected by Hurricane Ike," said Steve Fishman, ceo. "It's challenging for residents to rebuild their lives after losing so much, but we are excited about our opportunity to reopen our doors and do our part to help Galveston residents put the pieces back together."

Doors are scheduled to open at 10 a.m. April 26.

The new Galveston Big Lots is merchandised with “thousands of everyday items,” the retailer said, including health and beauty aids, toiletries, diapers, cleaning products, small electronics, food items, housewares, home decor, tools, toys, gifts, and “one-time deals.”

Big Lots operates 1,300 stores in 47 states.
