Sears Holdings to cut PVC usage

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 12/12/2007 1:11:00 PM

Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears and Kmart have pledged to “reduce and phase out” the use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from merchandise and packaging materials, parent firm Sears Holdings said today.

The company, with $50 billion in sales, thus joins the growing wave of retailers making the green move.

Besides the general pledge to “show preference” to suppliers using less toxic and non-toxic alternatives to PVC, Sears Holdings said it will “incorporate the Society of the Plastics Industry labeling system on private label merchandise packaging to make it easier for consumers to incorporate packaging options into their purchase decision.”
