WestPoint Stores' boss stepping aside

West Point, GA — Michael Velsmid has resigned, effective Wed., Jan. 15th, as senior vp of WestPoint Stevens and president of WestPoint Stevens Stores, the company announced this morning.
Al Markham, director of stores, has been designated to head the Stores operations on an interim basis until a successor is named.
Velsmid has been president of WestPoint Stevens Stores since 1992, when he joined the firm. He was named senior vp in June 2000.
