Karachi, Pakistan — —
Karachi, Pakistan — Less than six months after launching operations at a new greenfields facility, Towellers is expanding again.
The company has acquired the equipment of the former Caldwell Towel mill from St. Lawrence Corp. Now defunct, St. Lawrence was once the largest towel manufacturer in Canada.
The equipment will be relocated to Towellers' 225-acre Village operation outside of Karachi. The 625,000-sq.-ft. operation also houses towel equipment from the former Pillowtex Inc. Fieldale, Va., mill as well as blanket and sheet stitching machinery. The plant has its own power generation as well as a pre- and post-waste water treatment plant. The St. Lawrence equipment will expand Towellers' towel capacity by 30%, the company said.
