-- Home Textiles Today, 9/11/2009 1:45:00 PM

Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has named Scott Price executive vp, president and ceo of Walmart Asia. In this role, he will report directly to Doug McMillon, president and ceo, Walmart International.

Price will oversee operations in China, India and Japan, as well as business development across the Asia region. Based in Walmart’s regional office in Hong Kong, he will assume his role Oct. 15.

Price most recently was ceo of DHL Express Europe, and had previous executive stints with the company’s Asia Pacific and Japan units. Previously, he spent a decade at the Coca-Cola Co., where he worked in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macau and Mongolia.

“Scott brings tremendous global and regional experience and expertise to this position. He is the ideal candidate to lead this highly competitive region,” McMillon said. “We are eager to leverage his insight and capabilities to further our efforts in this region.”

According to Price, “I am excited to join Walmart and build on its strategy to save people money so they can live better around the world. I know the Asian business is growing at a fast pace, and I’m looking forward to being part of a company that is making such a positive difference in this global economy.”

The $401 billion retailer currently operates some 630 locations in China, India and Japan.
