Unifi Closing Nylon Plant

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 9/5/2005 12:00:00 AM

Greensboro, N.C. — Unifi, Inc. is closing Nylon plant number one in Mayodan, N.C., and will move those operations and offices to plant three in nearby Madison, N.C.

According to the company, the move allows Unifi to centralize production between the two sites and increase the overall efficiency of the Nylon business unit operations.

Plant three is the Nylon division's largest facility with over 1 million square feet of production space.

The company expects that fewer than 30 positions will be eliminated due to the move and that the majority of employees will be transferred from plant one to plant three.

The move is expected to begin this month, with the majority of the process being completed by December. The remainder of the process will be completed by March 2006, according to Unifi.

In addition, the company will move a small number of machines into plant three to improve its capabilities. Moving costs associated with this relocation are estimated to be $600,000 in capital expenditures.
