Bay Linens shows Indian influence

NEW YORK -Bay Linens aims for opulence this market, using a lot of shine and surface interest, with a rich Indian influence. Different fabrics and textures mix together for a whole composition, including the use of a lot of chenille.
"We're carried by a lot of retailers," said Dianne Morris, president. "They look to us to differentiate their assortments. We have to offer a lot of choices."
About a dozen new bedding groups will premiere, including Bergamot, an Italian fabric that has "everything going for it." It's a woven floral pattern that has been crushed and then printed, and is colored in dark rust and gold. "It's very much a showpiece."
In general, the new patterns center on rust reds, with various shades of green and gold tones, she said.
Another pattern, unnamed at press time, combines dark red and bronze with aubergine accents on a paisley chenille with a small shiny pattern, and finished up with brushed fringe and beading.
Victoria Falls, a cotton, rayon and linen blend, was inspired by a romantic fantasy of an early English safari. It mixes exotic elements of woven snakeskin fabric with rattan and animal skin prints, and a soft floral in the traditional English style. This one also has lush brush fringe, embroidery, metal beads and carved coconut shell buttons.
Of cotton/poly, Lampur is another pattern with a distinct Indian influence, with whimsical elephants and palm trees woven together on a rich tapestry.
The line, which carries a broad range of prices, ranges from $55 to $200 for a full/ queen duvet.
