Pendleton Home Launches Tapestries

Still flexing its muscles, and branching out in a modish new design direction for home, Pendleton Woolen Mills is launching a group of limited-edition wool tapestries featuring contemporary artists.

Known for its historical Native American blankets, as well as the Pendleton woolen shirt, the company has lately been diversifying into home. Now, it puts a distinctly contemporary spin on its rapidly growing home line with tapestries from Oregon artists Molly Cliff Hilts of Portland and Paul Alan Bennett of Sisters.

The two are spotlighted in a Contemporary Artist Series of Tapestries that uses new technologies in weaving developed under the lead of Brott Bishop, Pendleton vice chairman.

Each of the tapestries if 70-by-54 inches, and targets a $450 retail price point. Each pattern is produced in a limited edition of 750, and each is hand-signed and numbered.

For easy hanging, a tapestry and blanket hangar has been designed to allow the tapestry to float on the wall. The hangars come in a cherry finish and two sizes — 64-inch and 70-inch.
