Federated to SF with big Bloomies

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 11/12/2003 12:00:00 AM

Cincinnati — Federated Department Stores will build its second largest Bloomingdale's store nationwide in downtown San Francisco.

The Bloomingdale's store, to be located in the Westfield San Francisco Centre, will occupy 337,000 square feet and encompass five levels — second only to the division's New York flagship store. It will carry assortments in all categories of home and fashion merchandise, as well as furniture.

"The San Francisco store will be our West Coast landmark — as our New York flagship is in the East," said Michael Gould, chairman, Bloomingdale's. "We're thrilled to be part of this project, and we look forward to bringing our fashion leadership to San Francisco customers as we solidify our presence with a downtown store in this important market."

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow and the store is slated to open in fall 2006.

Meantime, Federated will convert six of Macy's seven Florida stores to Burdines-Macy's while closing another Macy's where its Burdines and Macy's stores overlap. As previously announced, Burdines and Macy's stores in Florida will begin operating as Burdines-Macy's beginning Jan. 30, 2004, at which time Burdines will also assume buying and management responsibilities for Macy's Florida operations.
