Davidson reduces art staff after strategy switch

Charlotte, NC — Davidson Cotton Company, based here, recently laid off two executives in its New City-based art department — Joel Tro and Lesley Brooks.
The move resulted from a change in its towel strategy to focus exclusively on the embellished towel business, exiting the beach towel and other sourced-product driven businesses, according to Bill Heitman, executive vp.
"Our sourced businesses, of which beach towels was a portion, were not meeting our profit goals," Heitman said.
