X marks the spot for WestPoint's new bedding

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/8/2002 12:00:00 AM

WestPoint Stevens pushed the home textiles envelope a little further last week, unveiling its new Martex X-Static sheet.

The company has signed a licensing agreement with the manufacturers of X-Static for a complete line of sheets, towels, blankets and other bedding products. X-Static utilizes special fibers that have a permanent silver coating bonded to their surface.

The new sheet contains these fibers that enable it to "react to surrounding temperatures, so that the sheet is cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter," said Bob Dale, president of WestPoint's Bed and Bath division. "Sleeping partners with differing body temperatures can both sleep more comfortably on X-Static sheets."

Dale added that the sheet is anti-microbial, anti-static, long wearing and is not chemically treated. Despite repeated washings, the silver cannot be washed out, he noted.

The sheet will be initially offered in natural, medium blue and medium green and in the "upper range" of price points.

"Our commitment to innovation is not just in response to what we have already heard from retailers and consumers, but also what we anticipate from them," Dale said. "There will be no letup in our product development. WestPoint Stevens will continue to offer products that retailers can single out for consumers and that consumers will buy because these products make their lives easier and more enjoyable."
