Dots Galore from Donna Karan

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 8/8/2006 12:00:00 AM

At the New York Market — Muted tints of color, abundant use of layers of sheers and dots, whether classic Swiss dots or polka dots, are important design statements in the Donna Karan bed and bath collection for spring.

In DKNY, sheers make a major statement throughout, especially when layered as in Watercolor Ribbon, an understated bed in lemon with accents of grass and lilac. Blossom uses Swiss dots interpreting the apparel fashion trend towards tulle. Blossom features embroidered, ribbon and metallic detailing. Floating Lace, a sheer organza with polka dots, sports open work flowers and embroidered sprigs with a touch of glitz.

In Pure, the new styles interpret neutrals in a feminine way with two new beds, both in white and ivory, and one also featuring flax. Pure Flower features embroidered flowers with a background of delicate smocking; while Pure Lace highlights vertical stripes of linen appliquéd over lace.

Donna Karan Collection, the top of the line, tilts toward a neutral palette. Textured Stripe in black and ivory features a woven stitched design with a linen bottom border in linen/cotton. Magnolia creates an elegant mood with a traditional floral damask highlighted by a sheer overlay and pintucking details, while Modern Silk uses subtle cording detail on a luxurious silk.

Crystalline, also in the Donna Karan Collection, creates a lot of surface interest with embroidery and pleating on a tapestry look fabric.

In towels, City Stripe, a two ply ring-spun construction with a sheared border, also is available in robes in 23 colors.

As part of the plan to broaden its exposure, the home furnishings program — primarily Pure — will be featured in Donna Karan stores in Tokyo, Korea and Australia, said Patsy Pollack, president, Donna Karan Home.
