The third annual Horizon Awards were recently presented during the SOFA (Sculpture Objects & Functional Art) exhibit by Hunter Douglas Window Fashions and New York's Museum of Arts & Design

The prize recognizes students in diverse craft media working in the 3-D visual arts. The four winners were:

  • Shayna Leib, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, won first prize and $5,000 for bringing rhythm and sound to colored glass.

  • Second prize, $2,500, was awarded to Kevin Vieths, from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, for his Tube Top Table, 2003.

  • Min Seong Kim, of New York's School of Visual Arts, garnered third prize, $1,000, with his Cardboard Chair, 2002, a cardboard prototype of a multi-dimensional design.

  • Honorable mention went to Emily Bowers, from the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, who created Fantasy Flower, 2003, a silk chiffon, shamay and twill dress and head piece influenced by the Caribbean and Brazil.
