Horizon winners announced

NEW YORK —
The third annual Horizon Awards were recently presented during the SOFA (Sculpture Objects & Functional Art) exhibit by Hunter Douglas Window Fashions and New York's Museum of Arts & Design
The prize recognizes students in diverse craft media working in the 3-D visual arts. The four winners were:

Shayna Leib, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, won first prize and $5,000 for bringing rhythm and sound to colored glass.

Second prize, $2,500, was awarded to Kevin Vieths, from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, for his Tube Top Table, 2003.

Min Seong Kim, of New York's School of Visual Arts, garnered third prize, $1,000, with his Cardboard Chair, 2002, a cardboard prototype of a multi-dimensional design.

Honorable mention went to Emily Bowers, from the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, who created Fantasy Flower, 2003, a silk chiffon, shamay and twill dress and head piece influenced by the Caribbean and Brazil.
