Dollar General Names Top Merchant
Discount general merchandiser Dollar General has recruited Todd Vasos as division president and chief merchandising officer for its 8,300 stores. Starting Dec. 1, he will oversee merchandising, marketing and global sourcing, and will report to ceo Rick Dreiling. Vasos was most recently evp and coo at Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Longs Drugs, where he had been promoted from a seven-year stint as svp and cmo. He previously worked at Eckerd Drug Corp. and Phar-Mor Food and Drug. Dollar General is No. 36 on the HTT Top 50 Retailing Giants, with 2007 home textiles sales of $120 million.
Exec Yulinsky Exits Sears Holdings
Corwin Yulinsky, evp customer strategy and insight at Sears Holdings Corp., left the company last Friday; the position oversees both customer relationship management and financial services. A Sears Holdings spokesperson told HTT that an executive search is underway and the position will be taken over on an interim basis by Kurt Kendall, who is currently vp enterprise decision analytics.
Yulinsky took on the post in October 2005, joining the company formed by financier (now chairman) Edward Lampert's merger of Sears and Kmart. He had previously been a leader of the financial institutions practice at McKinsey and Co.
