Orian Rug Launches into Wool

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 8/20/2007 12:00:00 AM

New York – One of the last domestic manufacturers of rugs left in the United States, Orian Rugs continues to crank out innovative product domestically — recently unveiled its first-ever wool rug, and a new generation of indoor/outdoor rugs in a more sophisticated design portfolio far from the predictable trellis, scrolling ivy and open-field border designs.

Orian, which stands for "Oriental Rugs in Anderson" (South Carolina), where the company is headquartered, showed its Wunda Wool collection — a competitively priced grouping of 30 designs made of 50% New Zealand wool, 25% acrylic and 25% polypropylene. They are set to retail for $299 for a 5-by-8.

In a palette of slate blue, chocolate, brick red, ivory, and cactus, the 30 designs include Peshawar-esque styles. Designs span updated traditionals through conservative contemporary.

Orian is buying the fibers and then weaving the rugs in its manufacturing facility at headquarters. The construction is octalobal, meaning it takes a two-ply yarn with a hard twist. The tip of the yarn is round so that it blooms at the top and creates a soft touch.

Veranda Breeze is Orian's latest version of the indoor/outdoor rug. It is synthetic with a soft face and is resistant to fading, staining, all-weather conditions, shrinkage and other damaging influences.

The 30 patterns in this collection include waves, large-scale traditional florals common in more formal area rugs, sharp modern looks, and other decorative designs that in color and pattern bring the indoors outside.

Veranda Breeze is the younger sister of Orian's original indoor/outdoor collection, titled Patio.
