Brentwood readies new facility

By Cecile B. Corral -- Home Textiles Today, 5/27/2002 12:00:00 AM

About six months after purchasing a 45-acre tract of land in the Village of Memphis, MS, to expand its business, Brentwood Originals is preparing to move into a newly built 400,000-square-foot facility.

Brentwood is slated to move on June 1 and will officially begin operating the facility on July 1, Loren Sweet, president, told HTT.

The new facility — one of the company's three facilities nationwide with the others located here and in Youngstown, OH— will be used to fill, blow, sew, box and ship decorative pillows and stock and ship window treatments and throws for distribution in the South and Southeast regions. It replaces Brentwood's Olive Branch, MS, plant, which the company is preparing to sell.

The new site will be home to 250 factory workers and plant management personnel.

Equipped with updated technology in conveyors, computers and polyester picking and blowing machinery, the new site "dramatically expands our capacity and flexibility," Sweet said. "The other plant was 20 years old and only 110,000 square feet, plus the 75,000 square foot site nearby but not adjacent, meaning we had to truck stuff back and forth. This site is much more efficient."
