GREEN BAY, WI -ShopKo's new full-service distribution facility in Omaha, NE, has begun operation, serving 35 ShopKo stores in six states. The 394,000-square-foot facility replaces the company's existing 52,500-square-foot facility in Omaha.
The fully mechanized center features a state-of-the-art conveyor system and has the capacity to serve 62 stores.
"This new facility allows ShopKo to pursue growth opportunities in this geographical area, improve service to the stores, reduce backstocks and optimize network inventories," said Bill Podany, chairman, president and ceo.
The company also operates a 494,000-square-foot distribution center in DePere, WI, and a 347,000-square-foot facility in Boise, ID.
The company announced last month that it was shutting down a DC in Quincy, IL, since that facility served a majority of 23 underperforming stores the company is closing.
