Irving, Texas – Arts and crafts retailer Michaels Stores, Inc., has named former Wal-Mart exec John Menzer, ceo, effective “in early April, but no later than April 15.”
Menzer most recently served as vice chairman and chief administrative officer of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; he previously was president and ceo of Wal-Mart International.
For 10 years prior to joining Wal-Mart, Menzer was a senior executive in the arts and crafts industry, including a stint as president of Ben Franklin Retail Stores, a hybrid arts and crafts / general merchandise wholesaler and retailer.
Michaels is owned by a private equity consortium led by Bain Capital and The Blackstone Group.
I know these comments are old but I don't understand why all of these people left comments addressed to Micheals. Funny, but how imbarrasing. That's like reading an article in the paper that mentions Lufthansa and contacting the paper to book a flight. Can't stop shaking my head and then they wonder why they don't receive an answer to their "problems". Now about that flight....
Natalie Bazant - 2012-07-11 19:58:12 EDTIt's been over a month already and I still haven't received my picture to be framed. This is the 2nd time I had to have it redone. The first time when they finally called me up to pick it up (over 2 weeks since I dropped it off) it was wrong. They lost the original sketch and the guy who actually framed the picture was the one who brought it out to me, unwrapped it, and to my horror, wasn't the original sketch. Very saracastic attitude, like it was fault, he didn't have the sketch. I told him I wanted my money back because the picture was totally unacceptable. He asked me about the original sketch, and thank God, the guy who did the sketch was actually there. He remembered me and said, Yep, that's NOT what I drew up. An hour and a half later, another sketch was drawn up, a picture taken this time of the total layout, and off I went. I missed giving the picture to my son for Christmas, because it still isn't ready and another 2 weeks have gone by since the second time I was there. My suggestion to future people who would like to get their picture framed, don't do it! Michael's offered a 50% discount plus an additional 15% 2 day special. It cost me $280 still! Ridiculous! I thought he made a mistake with the cost. Unbelievably high price! I haven't heard back from them (Michael's) and I explained to my son on Christmas why he didn't receive his gift.
Sharon Morales - 2011-12-25 09:58:45 ESTA manager at your Brookfield Wi store is asked where adhesive for fabric/clothing could be found. His answer - "we don't sell fabric, you might want to try JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts down the street". We did find the correct product at Michaels without further "assistance", chose not to cut off our nose to spite our face, and made the $3.14 purchase, our last purchase ever at Michaels.
Glenn Hayes - 2011-12-11 16:10:22 ESTI am very unhappy I received at Michaels Store in Rockway I brought in a picture to be framed 9/09/11 and it was supposed to be finished 9/27/11. I was still not finished, the man who spoke to be laughted thought it was so funny. When I suggested he could have called he laughed, He was nasy and rude.
Francine Quarg - 2011-10-17 16:01:00 EDTI was at Michaels Store in Poway for the 9.99 cricut cartridges and was told that there are a few left, that the sales started yesterday, I was there on Sunday as the advertised flyer stated it starting on Sunday. I was there before the store opened and was disappointed again. I believe that this was false advertising.
I shop at Michaels every week or every other week spending at least $45 at a time. I have shopped there for many years and do so more since I retired. I find that shopping there has come to be a very unpleasant experience and do not enjoy it as before. I feel and know that other people find it that way also. I usually do not take time to write an email as such but thought you should know.
