ABC Moves Kids Expo to Louisville for 2011, 2012

All Baby & Child will move its ABC Kids Expo trade show to Louisville, Ky., in 2011 and 2012, officials announced earlier this month.

The show has an option to return to Louisville through 2015, officials said earlier this month at a press conference during the ABC Spring Educational Conference in Kentucky. The 2011 and 2012 events will be held at the Kentucky Exposition Center.

"Our board of directors is here in force and we look forward to having a long-term relationship with the city of Louisville," said Ken Goore, chairman of the ABC board.

The dates for the Louisville events are Sept. 23–26, 2011, and Oct. 14–17, 2012. The 2009 and 2010 editions will still be held in Las Vegas as originally scheduled, with this fall's event set for Sept. 13–16 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

"We are truly a possibility city and we truly are delivering on that moniker," said Jerry Abramson, Louisville mayor, during the press conference. "This is one of the most exciting trade show announcements we've had in this community, certainly in the 20 years I've been mayor."

According to Larry Schur, president and show director, Louisville, with its central location and "over-the-top hospitality," was a natural choice to be the next home to the ABC Kids Expo. "The Kentucky Exposition Center offers exactly what we need to provide a successful show," he said, also citing the relative affordability of hosting an event in Kentucky with lower labor, hotel and exhibition space costs.

Sister publication Tradeshow Week has named the ABC Kids Expo to its Fastest 50 lists for four years. The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau estimated the local revenue generation from the ABC Kids Expo at $12 million per year, making it the third-largest convention in the city.
