Beaulieu Canada products exceed CRI’s Green Label Plus

Acton Vale, Quebec, Canada – Area rug and carpet manufacturer and supplier Beaulieu Canada has reached a “green” milestone.

The company recently announced that all of its products meet or exceed Green Label Plus, the Carpet and Rug Institute’s (CRI) Indoor Air Quality testing program.

Dalton, Ga.-based CRI, the national trade association for the carpet and rug industry, created Green Label Plus to identify carpets and adhesives that are tested by an independent, certified laboratory and meet stringent criteria for low chemical emissions.

“We felt that it was important to submit all categories of carpet we produce so as to not limit our customers,” says Karel Vercruyssen, ceo, Beaulieu Canada. “Whether it is for a commercial project or a high-rise condominium or even a single family dwelling, Beaulieu Canada has a carpet that will meet LEED criteria for ultra-low emitting materials.”

To receive Green Label Plus certification, carpet and adhesive products must undergo a 14-day testing process that measures emissions for a range of chemicals. The test methodology for small scale environmental chamber testing was developed in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Carpet systems that meet or exceed CRI’s Green Label or Green Label Plus programs can contribute one full Indoor Environmental Quality Credit to the LEED ratings of the U.S. Building Council. Similarly, the Green Guide for Health Care awards one point to healthcare facilities that install Green Label Plus carpet.

CRI’s members are soft floor covering manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers, representing more than 90% of all carpet produced in the U.S. It is a source for science-based information and insight into more earth friendly carpet and rugs.
