Curtain figure Harry Markowitz dies

Ridgewood, N.Y. – Services were held here June 13 for Harry Markowitz, retired chairman of the former Max Kahn Curtain Co.

Markowitz, 96, was a leading participant in the curtain and drapery industry for 64 years, handing over the reins of the company to his son Steven. Philanthropy was a major force in his life and he was the past industry, New York and Palm Beach, Fla. chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, as well a founder of both the Long Island Jewish and Albert Einstein Hospitals, among many charitable activities.

He was the recipient of the Marvin Rosenberg Citizen of the Industry Award established by Crown Home Fashions (now CHF Industries) in 1992.

Markowitz is survived by his wife Patricia, son Steven, daughters Susan and Diane and seven grandchildren.
