Maolong Down Arrives in America

City of Industry, Calif. — Maolong Down, a Chinese manufacturer of natural down and feather bedding products, has established a U.S. division to build its retail-direct business.

NewPoint International was established as the company's “service arm,” according to Justin Yang, vice president of sales and marketing.

“The shortest distance between two points is a straight line,” said Yang, who is based in the Los Angeles-area office along with a product development staffer. “NewPoint's goal is to provide a convenient link and logistic support for our customers in the U.S. and Canada.”

The U.S. division opened its doors in January and plans to expand its sales staff rapidly. NewPoint also plans to add designers later in the year, Yang said.

The American operation covers utility bedding, fashion bedding such as comforter and duvet sets, throws and blankets. NewPoint also plans to take a showroom space for the New York Home Textiles Market in April.

The 20-year-old parent company is part of publicly traded Shoaxing City Maolong Wuzhong Down Products Co. Ltd. Maolong Down has been exporting to the United States for 15 years through importers and wholesalers, and has an annual capacity of 15,000 tons of down and feather production, Yang said.

Maolong Down, based in Shaoxing in the Zhejiang province, also plans to open additional branch offices in Europe and Asia, he said.

“In today's global economy and competitive business environment, direct sourcing is the key to success,” Yang said.
