Karastan's Rug Stars at Oscars

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 3/8/2009 12:00:00 AM

Karastan played a starring role in the backstage décor of the recent 81st Annual Academy Awards, held Feb. 22.

The company's Mama Mia shag rug and carpet — named after the 2008 remake of the original Broadway play based on the 1970s ABBA hit by the same name — provided the decor for the Seventies Modern theme of Architectural Digest magazine's Greenroom backstage.

This was the seventh consecutive year that the AD povided the lounge. The tradition was marked by the announcement of an AD100 interior designer chosen to create the room. Tapped this year was Steven Shadley, whose clients include Diane Keaton, Woody Allen and Robert Altman.

"Our new Mama Mia shag in color Crystaline provided the perfect Seventies Modern look," said Connie Berry, Karastan director of marketing. "We simply bound the carpet to fit the space and let the beauty of the style speak for itself." The Mama Mia rug will appear in the June issue of AD.
