Roger Milliken honored

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 9/17/2001 12:00:00 AM

Milliken & Company chairman and ceo Roger Milliken last week was inducted into the American Textile Hall of Fame, a newly established program honoring dedication and commitment to the nation's textile industry.

The Hall of Fame is housed here at the American Textile History Museum (ATHF), the nation's largest and most comprehensive textile museum.

Elected with Milliken were textile pioneer Samuel Slater and leading electricity-generating company Duke Power. The inaugural class of 2001, selected by the ATHF board of governors, was honored at the museum at a luncheon and induction ceremony on Sept. 10.

Milliken was recognized for his lifelong commitment to excellence, innovation, leadership development, environmental stewardship and continuous quality improvement in every aspect of the field of textiles.

"It has been an exciting voyage," said Milliken in accepting the honor, "and I have a great feeling of pride in this industry, whose accomplishments have woven themselves indelibly in all the many threads of the fabric that is the U.S.A. I am just one of many, many people who have played a part in this dynamic industry."

Milliken & Company, Spartanburg, SC, is a chemical manufacturer that employs approximately 16,000 people in 65 manufacturing sites across five Southeastern states.
