Silverstein takes reins as LNT pres.

CLIFTON, NJ -Linens 'N Things has promoted Steve Silverstein to president, reporting to Norman Axelrod, ceo and chairman. Axelrod, who has been ceo and president since 1988 and chairman since 1997, is relinquishing the presidential role.

Silverstein joined the retailer in 1992 as vp and gmm and was promoted to executive vp, chief merchandising officer in 1998. Prior to joining Linens 'N Things, he was merchandise vp of home textiles at Bloomingdales, which he joined in 1985.

"Steve has been a critical component in our company's success during the last nine years," said Axelrod. "His promotion supports our aggressive growth plans for the future. He has helped to develop our superstore concept, grow the 'things' business, broaden our marketing influence, create a variety of new businesses while also providing leadership to our logistics and replenishment functions."
