Sferra breaks the barrier; 1,000 thread count sheets

By Andrea Lillo -- Home Textiles Today, 3/30/2001 12:00:00 AM

CLIFFWOOD, NJ -For those who thought thread count couldn't go much higher, Sferra Bros. will bow Millesimo, its 1,000-count sheet at market.

"This Egyptian cotton sateen has been in the works for more than two years," said Paul Hooker, president. "Our goal was to obtain much finer yarns than we had ever used before, and construct them in such a way as to create a sateen that was both lustrously soft, yet a full-bodied sateen. We think we have succeeded in our quest."

The sheet is 1,020 threads per square inch, and the company has had it certified at that number by the International Fabricare Institute (IFI). Retailers will receive a letter from the IFI verifying the count as accurate.

The company said that this sheet is a technological breakthrough, as for the first time in luxury sheeting, a yarn finer than 120's is being used in a twisted construction.

Offered in white or ivory, Millesimo is available either with a lace inset or with hemstitching, and has the standard sizes from twin to California king.

Woven 120 inches wide in Italy, the sheet allows for extra wide king top sheets and bottom fitted sheets with 17-inch deep pockets. A queen sheet set will wholesale for about $504 and a king set for about $575.
