Strouds laid off more in December

Specialty retailer Strouds had more layoffs at its corporate offices in City of Industry, CA, in late December.

Rob Valone, president, declined to give the number of positions eliminated or which departments were affected, saying it was only "a person here and a person there. There's not much to report … We continue to adjust expenses to revenues."

Hanover direct adds Masson to board

Robert Masson has joined the board of directors at Hanover Direct and will assume leadership of the audio committee. Masson was most recently senior vp, finance and administration of Parsons & Whittemore, one of the world's largest producers of market pulp for the paper industry, from where he retired in June 2002. He has also served in financial and executive positions at Ford, PepsiCo and Combustion Engineering (now part of the ABB Group). In addition, the company added that David Hakman has left the board, which he served on since 1989.

"David has been a key board member for Hanover Direct, and we regret his departure. He has diligently served the company's interests for almost 14 years and has made very valuable contributions," said Tom Shull, chairman and ceo.
