Greenspitation Home goes with Karastan for eco area rugs

-- Home Textiles Today, 4/15/2009 2:18:00 PM

Greensboro, N.C. – Four Karastan area rugs have been chosen to be included in a newly built home here positioned as an example of modern green building practices in the city.

The Holder-Raines family owns this house -- dubbed the Greenspiration Home – and were particular about the area rugs they featured on key areas of almost 3,000 square feet of floor space. They sought pieces that were locally manufactured, made in an earthy palette and eco-friendly.

“Karastan takes sustainability seriously,” said Trish Holder, owner of the Greenspiration Home. “Wool is naturally durable and stain resistant.”

The four Karastan rugs that met the criteria were: Sereno, from the Original Karastan collection, which is laid out in the home’s dining room; Ravenna, part of the Ashara collection, which sets the tone for the family room; Capri–Maize from the Sierra Mar collection, situated in the master bedroom; and Athena, part of the Shapura collection and the anchor for the home office’s décor.

All of the rugs are Axminster woven nearby in Eden, N.C., and are made of 100% Wools of New Zealand-branded wool -- a renewable and biodegradable resource that is produced using farming techniques that carefully preserve the health and beauty of the land.

“Given Karastan’s ongoing dedication to sustainability, we’re thrilled to be part of the Greenspiration Home project, which demonstrates that a true commitment to green living is increasingly within everyone’s reach,” said Connie Berry, director of marketing.

The Greenspiration Home will be open to visitors during the High Point Market later this month.
